Above 80: An essay at advanced academic level (far above expectations of learning outcomes)
Marks above 80 are seldom. They are given solely for coursework or dissertations which are not only excellent for the study level of the student but which reach a professional standard. Such coursework or dissertations go far beyond the learning outcomes that are formulated in this module handbook or the module specification document. A mark above 80 is awarded
a) if the essay or dissertation is far above the learning goals three respects: structure and argument, knowledge and reflection, and writing style.
b) O, if the student has undertaken a particular difficult or original research task that merits recognition for its autonomy, intelligence and mastership in execution.

An essay of this level shows very, very good achievement of all learning outcomes formulated in this module handbook and the module specification document.

Structure & Argument:
Clear, sharply focused and incisive argument from which a clear and plausible structure is derived; the argument is based on an intelligent theoretical reflection and on substantial knowledge; the structure is internally consistent and all parts are linked to each other by plausible transitions; all individual parts show a profound analysis that contributes directly to the argument; the conclusion gives a clear answer to the question that has been originally (re)formulated by the author in the introduction.

Knowledge & Reflection:
The answer shows a considerable degree of factual and theoretical knowledge of the topic; the text displays impressive skills in elucidating concepts, conducting analysis and marshalling evidence; the argument is well reflected and based on an easily retraceable line of reasoning; all claims derive from the argument and its theoretical or factual background; all claims are supported by factual evidence and reflect a consistent theoretical analysis; proficiency in the use of all concepts and notions; all concepts are clearly defined and resituated in their theoretical context; transversal links between different topics, theses, approaches and concepts that have been dealt with in the module are established with great accuracy.
