One effect of being humiliated in the classroom is skipping class or eventually dropping out. At one time in my life, about my 10th grade year in high school, I was seriously thinking about dropping out due to a lack of friends. Not having friends in school is like school with no teachera€¦not possible. Anyhow, the pressure of maintaining a face like everyone else and not being laughed at became so hard. It became so tough that I would rather not go to school at all than put up with the environment of amusement due to how proper I spoke.
The cause of being humiliated can possibly be an effect of death. Humiliation in the classroom is causing more suicides. For example, in January of 2010, a girl name Phoebe Prince was bullied to death. Apparently, school officials and teachers knew about the harassment but didna€™t do enough effectively to stop it. The students obviously did harmful things to her, but didna€™t literally kill her with their bare hands. When such social derision becomes pervasive, it can become so painful that some students seriously contemplate and act on taking their own lives. A handful do attempt or complete suicide, such as 16-year-old Phoebe Prince. Then, some become angry enough to lash out at their fellow students almost randomly, as has been the case in some of the most tragic episodes of violencea€¦like the Virginia Tech catastrophe.
