Consider Your Audience

For your beginning research, you really want to change a small piece of the world.”

a Nina Nabors, PhD (Citation from Course DVD)

When you expand upon the body of knowledge in your field, the findings that you present may influence one reader, who may in turn influence others. How to present your research findings appropriately to your audiencea and knowing who your audience isa require a thoughtful strategy. In this weeks Discussion, you will consider the members of that Small piece of the worldabout which Dr. Nabors speaks, and the potential for social change.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Review the resources, suggested by your Instructor, that detail your fields best practices for the dissemination of research findings.

Review the NEDARC Web site, Utilizing Data for Communication.”

For your focus in this Discussion, choose one of the abbreviated research plans that you have drafted.

Identify the potential audiences for the research proposed in the plan.

Select three potential audiences to whom you could potentially present your research findings.

Suggest strategies for presenting your findings to these three audiences in a way that makes the most sense to the audience.
With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3, 2to 3-paragraphs with your strategies for presenting your research findings to your three selected audiences. Justify why those strategies would be most effective for those audiences.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the reading(s) and/or media segment(s) and use APA format.

Read a selection of your colleagues postings.

Respond by Day 5 to at least two of your colleagues postings in one or more of the following ways:

Ask a probing question.

Share an insight from having read your colleagues posting.

Offer and support an opinion.

Validate an idea with your own experience.

Make a suggestion.

Expand on your colleagues posting.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.
