Comment (critique) on the essay of contemporary utopia titled pico union
The Pico Union essay is based on this instruction below.
For this essay, analyze the utopia/intentional community that you visited in Los Angeles or elsewhere. Please provide enough background information about your site to orient your reader. Be specific. Provide relevant geographic, chronological, and biographical information (e.g. exactly where is it located, when was it established, who founded, designed, or inhabits it). Your essay, however, should not merely be informative. Please also analyze and evaluate your site based on the working questions that have underpinned your research from the beginning. These questions are as follows:
1. How does this utopia function as an ideal community? As in both Thomas More and Platoas utopic texts, utopia is not a vision of how to make life perfect for one individual. It is an attempt to create / imagine a better community.
2. What sort of social critique is leveled by this utopia? What aspects of society does the utopia reject or actively work against? How does it present an alternate model?
3. Does this utopia inspire social change? What form would the social change inspired by this utopia take?
You should comment or critique the essay titled pico union that I attached based on Thomas Mores Utopia and Platos Republic. I will provide the pdf of Thomas Mores Utopia. For Platos Republic, it has to be G.M.A. Grube & C.D.C. Reeve (1992) translation. You dont really need to cite a lot, but if you want to cite from Platos Republic, cite the paragraph numbers and letters instead of page number.
The 3 sources I put when I ordered this essay are the Thomas Mores Utopia, Platos Republic, and the Pico Union essay which will be commented on.
