Convention of architecture; Diagrammatic Transformation of Architecture
This is a final research paper of architectural theory; critical studies class at graduate level.
this paper is based on architecture and its theory analysis to STAKE a new position in the contemporary architecture field. the new position that you stake must be informed by some theoretical stance outside of architecture, such as in art theory, philosophy, complexity sciences, information and media studies, etc.
instructions in syllabus
there were 2 previous research papers which to identify a convention of architecture (e.g. the plan, the section, the elevation, the perspectival drawing, the wall, the door, the window, volume, massing, envelope, faA§ade, surface, ornament, detail, decoration, structure, frame, roof, profile, figure, etc.) and write a coherent brief of how this convention has been conventionally understood in either Classicist architecture, Modernist architecture or vernacular architecture. Explain the tradition of architectureas orientation to the convention you have chosen. Moreover, Then, in the second paper, describe how this idea has been critiqued through a manifestation in contemporary projects. Then, theorize as to why this change has occurred beyond material advances and/or direct function (i.e. it canat be that thereas just a new technology or some different human ergonomics). To theorize why this idea has changed in architecture, you will need some outside source such as political theory, economic theory, social theory, art theory, and so on from the last 25 years. Refer to that as well in this abstract.
I have simplified instruction here.
a?Diagrammatic Transformation of Architecturea
I would set the a?diagrama as a convention of architecture for the main abstract thesis of this paper.
FIRST, write coherent brief of how this convention a?diagrama has been understood in either Classicist architecture, modernist architecture or vernacular architecture. explain the tradition of architectureas orientation to the convention of a?diagrama. example how Vitruvius used diagram ex1Diagram of the winds. Philibert de IOrme: Architecture, Rouen 1648 how ex2Amphiprostyle Temple plan and ex3 leonard da vincias vitruvian mana(not only painting but also human bodyas proportion of diagram) could be read as a diagram.
SECOND, 1.describe how this idea a?diagrama has been critiqued through a manifestation in contemporary projects. Then, theorize as to why this change has occurred beyond material advances and/or direct function. (please reference Peter Eisenmanas Diagram diaries) 2. a short list of references for the contemporary sensibility. At least two. On from outside of architecture. example, christoper alexanderas patten language, ex6 theo van doesburg and cornelis van eesteren 1923 3. four architectural projects from the last 25 years that exemplify the contemporary turn specifically. example, ex4Le Corbusier Comparative sketches to show the advantages of the Five Points diagram, ex5 OMAas Yokohama project 1992 peak hours and assemblage of programmes diagram, , ex7 JENCKS THEORY OF EVOLUTION, AN OVERVIEW OF 20TH CENTURY ARCHITECTURE.
LASTLY, theory analysis to STAKE a new position in the contemporary architecture field. the new position that you stake must be informed by some theoretical stance outside of architecture, such as in art theory, philosophy, complexity sciences, information and media studies, etc.
example, 1. digitalized effect computer technology brings another aspect to the diagram. computer gives faster and accurate device to draw diagram such as autoCAD, and adobe illustrator 2. aesthetic value aesthetic value has become fundamental principles of architectural diagram design. 3. complexity of building contemporary architecture buildings such as morphosis, zaha hadidas building design is so dynamic? to show in simple diagram which requires more visual, patterning, depth of illustration.
