Critically analyse a health promotion initiative in relation to a population group of your choice i.e, Breast screening

The Ottawa Charter defines health promotion as the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health. To reach a state of complete physical, mental and social well being, an individual or group must be able to identify and realise aspirations, to satisfy needs and to change and cope with the environment. Health is therefore seen as a resource for every day life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasising social and personal responses as well as physical capacities. Therefore health promotion goes beyond healthy life style to well-being (World Health Organisation, 1986:2).
This Charter has been the predominant influence on health promotion activity in the intervening period. The Irish Government has published Strategies in 1994, 1995 and in 2000 putting forward their vision for Health Promotion for the Irish population. A review of the National Health Promotion Strategy (2000) has been undertaken which confirmed that significant progress in implementation of the Strategy was evident.
