Primary Source Paper

A primary source is an original fundamental and authoritative document pertaining to an event or subject of inquiry; a firsthand or eyewitness account of an event (i.e. newspaper articles, journals, letters, etc.) . A secondary source of information is one that was created later by someone who did not experience first-hand or participate in the events or conditions youare researching. For the purposes of a historical research project, secondary sources are generally scholarly books and articles.

For this paper you will be given 12 primary source documents and 2 tasks to address.





Part I a The Essay (80 points)
a? Your paper should introduce the documents and explain the historical context (who wrote it, when, where, and why); it should briefly summarize the content of the document.
a? Write a well-organized essay that includes an introduction, several paragraphs, and a conclusion.
a? Address both tasks thoroughly and in equal measure.
a? Use evidence from at least seven documents in your essay. When referencing the documents in your essay say a?Document 1a? or a?Document 2a?.
a? Support your response with relevant facts, examples, and details.
a? Include additional relevant outside information.(Research must be done) Remember this is a history class and historical research must be present in your essay.

Part II a The Bibliography/Format (20 points)
a? Your paper must include a bibliography.
a? You must have at least two sources. One of these sources must be a book. Wikipedia and encyclopedias are NOT sources.
a? Your bibliography must be properly formatted.
a? Citations must be included. (MLA or Chicago) You do not need to cite the documents.
a? Papers must be double spaced with Times New Roman size 12 font and 1 inch margins.

Essays will be graded upon originality, substance, and correct grammatical expression.

The rubric must be attached to your paper. It must be the last page. Please reference the rubric while writing your paper.
