Epistemological theories and its influence in our thinking in psychology
Two interconnected epistemological themes were weaved into the lecture throughout the semester. One concerned how individuals come to have knowledge of themselves and their relation to the world. The other concerned how science strives to have knowledge of individuals and their relation to the world. Write an essay that addressed how these themes developed historically and how they have influenced our thinking in psychology. Your essay might address such questions as the following although it need not be limited to these questions. What epistemological assumptions do we make most of the time? What do we assume about the relationship between the knower, and what is known, that is between what is subjective and what is objective and knowledge? What alternatives are there to our usual epistemological assumptions? How have our epistemological assumption influenced modern theories in psychology?
