Title: Challenges and Opportunities in Strategy Implementation
Task: Write an essay which considers the potential and limitations of the strategy implementation tools covered in the lectures
Weighting: All sections are equally weighted

Note:
Students are to critique the implementation and limitation
It is essential to identify benefits and disadvantages of each tool and demonstrate the implications that it has on the organisation. Providing examples to illustrate some key points are preferred. For instance, you may want to speculate what kind of strategic business units are selected tools are beneficial or even detrimental and why. So this would require further reading particularly the core text book and other sources to understand the limitations and advantages of these tools. So the focus here is much more on the theoretical side and you will not be expected to make partial application with the company you choose. You may refer to company and strategy implementation in practice when constructing your arguments as previously mentioned. (Selective towards tools and theories)

It would be preferred to recommend another strategic tool to balance out the disadvantages of one strategic tool.

USE EVIDENCE AND EXAMPLES
Appraisals are supported with clear evidence and examples demonstrating specific
knowledge. Discussion is driven by the specific practical circumstances of your work
experience or coursework assignment, and clear evidence is provided for the problems,
issues and weaknesses identified.

LEVEL OF REFLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Provide a critical reflection and analysis rather than simply a narrative description of your
work. Identifiy causes and effects of strengths and weaknesses, and identifiy methods
and strategies for improvement. You should avoid listing aspects of your analysis and
instead present evidence of personal interpretation of the implications of the factors upon
the organisation.
Use of theory
Theory is explicitly used to analyse your work experience and to draw out implications.
Theory is used to support rather than dominate your appraisal. Theory used is relevant to
the circumstances and context of your work experience. Key terms and theoretical concepts
are explained. Shows understanding of the usefulness of theory. Proper referencing of
literature used (Harvard style).

APPRIPATENESS OF RECOMMENDATIONS
Recommendations are explicitly stated and arise clearly from the analysis. Explains how
the recommendations will solve the problems, issues and weaknesses identified. Theory
and case-study examples are used to produce recommendations where appropriate.

Hi,

The week 23 lecture gives you a summary of all the tools used this term, needed for the essay. All the tools on the week 23 slides should try and be included, just to name a few; the principal-agent theory, the governance chain, stakeholder mapping, the change kaleidoscope, Mckinseys 7 framework etc. Just to summarise again, we are supposed to critique the key tools, theories, concepts and principles after each section.
