Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand the differences between research in the service sector and in other sectors
2. Identify suitable secondary resources relating to issues in the financial services sector
3. Evaluate secondary resources according to established criteria
4. Demonstrate an awareness of current research issues in financial services
5. Design a simple experiment in some part of the financial services industry
6. Conduct original research
7. Analyse research findings using relevant statistical techniques
8. Communicate research findings in a suitable way
9. Demonstrate organisational ability in assembling the material into a seamless project

Your project must not exceed 5,000 words in length

You need a clear research question e.g. how important are tax considerations to savers? You need to review the literature concerning saving/investing behaviour. This should include theories such as portfolio theory. You should also look at what influences decision-making such as peer groups, family, advisors/experts, culture and so on. You then need to write a proper methodology chapter saying what you are going to do and how you are going to do it e.g. you are going to use the hypothetico-deductive approach and conduct a small survey amongst savers/investors. Develop 2 or 3 hypotheses and then conduct the original research.
