Chapter 18 of The Voyage of the Beagle written by Charles Darwin During the 19th century, Europeans began to explore the uncharted regions of the world. These explorations lead to the discovery of people from new cultures otherwise known as the Othersor uncivilized, savage (non-Christian) natives of the world. To explain and understand the differences between these Othersand Europeans, scholars researched different areas in regards to geological attributions, cultural practices and relations to Westerners. Hence, based on the reading of this chapter do you think that Darwin believes these people are savages? Why or why not? Please give at least 2 examples to support your opinion.

Can you identify any similarities and/or differences between Darwins accounts of the island people he encountered to that of a person living in the 21st century?
