To demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which children develop in the Early Years and Primary settings with particular emphasis upon childrenas health and wellbeing.

Examine current legislation relevant to schools and children and demonstrate an understanding of the links between policy and classroom practice.

You will need to demonstrate your understanding of specific legislative and policy developments which have impacted upon educational settings and classroom practice within the last decade. This should include:
a? An overview of the issues and subsequent legislative and policy developments with regards to the Every Child Matters Agenda. This should provide a useful context for demonstrating your knowledge and understanding of the subsequent impact upon school practice and childrenas individual development, health and wellbeing.
It is also important to demonstrate your understanding of the most recent
developments as regards ECM and implications for schools and
practitioners.

You need to identify and discuss those factors that you consider to be of significance with regards to childrenas development, health and well being.
You need to demonstrate your understanding of the conditions for/obstacles against a good childhood and how the implementation of different approaches, particularly within educational settings, can improve the quality of childrenas experiences.

You need to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of how the use of specific classroom strategies and school approaches can impact upon and affect childrenas development.
You should explore these approaches/strategies through the provision of an in depth and critical analysis which includes the advantages and disadvantages of such approaches.
Your analysis should include examples of approaches that are drawn from EACH of the following:
1. Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning(SEAL)
2. Forest Schools
3. Curriculum Approaches towards a Healthy Lifestyle

When identifying, discussing and analysing the impact upon childrenas achievement, health and wellbeing of relevant school approaches and strategies, you should incorporate supportive evidence that is drawn from as wide a range of research and classroom experiences as possible.
