Hoose a form of popular media that you are passionate about. The media may be music, a book, or a movie.
Write a thesis sentence stating how and why it is more than just a piece of entertainment. The thesis must include why it is a legitimate form of popular culture. Keep in mind factors such as influence and controversy.
Based on the questions Ive been seeing, Id like to make several points of clarification:
1. Please be specific in your choice. If you write about movies, this topic is enough for several books. You just wont be able to narrow the topic enough to deal with it specifically in the short space available. Rather, if you want to talk about a movie, name it.
2. Then, express why it is something youre passionate about, thus a legitimate form of popular culture. Go ahead and make the assumption that if youre passionate about it, others are too.
3. As part of your discussion, draw in at least one point about influence and controversy.
So, let me give you two examples:
Too general (thesis):
Movies are a legitimate form of popular culture. I just love movies. They influence our culture, and they are sometimes controversial.
Much better (thesis):
The movie Gone with the Wind offers the viewer both insights into a history and its controversies and a powerful storyline that illustrates important points about human nature.
Notice that the minimum word count is 250, and Id suggest that more words will probably give better support to your view. If you are a bit over 350, that is okay.
Please double space your work, and include your name in the Word document.
