This session will examine the challenges involved in managing international HRM issues through the process of corporate merger and/or acquisition, as well as in other a?strategic alliancesa such as international joint ventures. It will begin by defining these various terms, and then consider the rationale and reasons why companies enter into such arrangements. It will assess the factors that appear to influence organisational success or failure, both in terms of strategic and organisational fit as well as the inter-personal and political dynamics between managers and employees. Case study research will be drawn upon to highlight areas where the HR function can make useful interventions in the merger process.
