Isaster Readiness, Future Threats, Media and Homeland Security, Homeland Security in Action
Assess the current status of the disaster readiness of the United States. Using the text and outside scholarly sources, determine whether the United States is in a better or worse position to respond to a major terrorist action against the United States since September 11, 2001 and the Katrina relief efforts.
Address future threats of terrorism against the United States. What do you think is the most significant threat to the United States and why? What counterterrorism methods could be used to defeat this threat? What should the responsive measures be if this threat is actualized
Preparing, responding and understanding a terrorist attack or threat to the homeland requires a responsive and supportive media system. After the 9/11 attacks, the media was crucial in informing the public about recent attacks and future threats. However, over time, many felt the media had gone too far causing unnecessary fear in the American public rather than accurately informing them of potential threats. In two or three paragraphs, describe what you feel the mediaas role is in homeland security and whether it needs to go further or be more cautious in its coverage of threats to the homeland.
