Short stories to choose from: (Choose two, but cannt both be Gothic genre.
The yellow wallpaper, Hills like white elephants, The cask of amontillado,death by landscape, the things they carry, queen of the north.
For this task, you need to write a short (750-1000 word) comparison between two short stories, based on one of the questions given below. As with your short responses, the word limit is again sufficiently low to require you to focus in on your thesis and minimize extraneous material. Be sure to write a disciplined, focused essay, and to edit carefully to ensure you remain within the word limit. Your essay should conform to MLA style in all particulars, including formatting and referencing. Refer back to the in-class resources on structuring a comparative essay and referencing conventions.

The settings of the short stories we have looked at so far in class have varied widely: from catacombs and Spanish train stations to the Canadian wilderness and jungles of Vietnam. With reference to two of the short stories discussed so far (including at least one that is not in the Gothic genre, compare and discuss the way setting contributes to tone, characterization, and/or theme in those stories.
