Issertation Topic: Social Media/Social Network

Dear Writer, I study in Business specialised in Marketing, and currently doing a dissertation on the topic of Social Media/Social Network. I want you to write a dissertation and below is the detail of my dissertation proposal.

My Dissertation Proposal:

(Below I have indicated the Dissertation Topic / Research Question / issues / arguments that I will develop in my dissertation, my overall approach or methodology and the source(s) of data I intend to use).

My Dissertation Topic: Social Media/Social Network

My Research Question: a?How can fast food restaurants industry use a?social networksa to maximise their competitive advantage?a?

-Note: I want you to analyse McDonalds company in this dissertation not Fast Food Restaurants Industry. This is because the supervisor gave me advice that, as we know McDonalds is a market leader in the Fast Food Restaurants Industry, it will represent the whole industry as a market leader. The supervisor also told me not to put the company name into my research question, otherwise my dissertation will advertise for them.

-For this topic, you should consider looking at it from the viewpoint of a company, with a specific disciplinary focus from the point of view of an issue in Marketing e.g. How can McDonalds use a?social networksa to maximise their competitive advantage? Please critically analyse this research question from the Marketing point of view.

-The issues and arguments that I will develop in my dissertation would relate to Marketing point of view, and also will be looking at the role of technology in terms of social networks.

-In this dissertation you have to apply at least 3 theories or concepts relevant to the research question. Full elaboration of concepts, theory or models, well synthesised and critically evaluated. Good analysis of topic/fieldwork/data and to link theory and empirical data and generate pertinent and insightful conclusions.

Methodology:

-In order to analyse and evaluate how can McDonalds use a?social networksa to maximise their competitive advantage?, both primary and secondary data will be collected.

(Secondary data) a Literature review (at least 1,000 words).

-I will look for secondary data first. I will start with my literature search in order to write a literature review.
-I will begin searching and finding literature and deciding if it is relevant to my area of investigation, by using quality and recognised academic journals article, book, and newspaper article, in order to produce quality work.

-Literature review will explain the background to my chosen issue, identifying the important issues and current debate in this area as well as, what concepts and theories are relevant. With my literature review I will critically examining the issue I am investigating using the ideas contained in the relevant literature as evidence.

-Consider and discuss not only work that supports but also work that opposes my argument and focus on an issue which is relevant to my research question, analyse the multiplicity of debates surrounding this issue.

-Literature review will allow to refining my knowledge, highlighting areas previously not covered, broadening and deepening my understanding of the issue I am investigating.

(Primary data) Qualitative research Interview a manager of McDonalds restaurant (only one interview)

-The method I have chosen is qualitative research and the reason behind this is because, qualitative interview is concerned with how people think and feel about the topics of concern to the research and gather broader, more in-depth information from fewer respondents and data are obtained through methods such interview, that is in narrative rather than numerical form which is more appropriate to the research question. In addition, it can lead to the development of new ideas and hypothesis, or to the discovery of new dimensions of a problem to be studied, also complements and supports the secondary data.

-I will interview a manager of McDonalds restaurant in order to obtain ideas and information that can be linked to addressing the research question.

-Therefore, one interview of a manager of McDonalds restaurant will be the only qualitative research method in this dissertation. There is no quantitative research due to the short time frame and Christmas holidays and these are limitations to my dissertation.

-In qualitative research the interview discussion will be recorded in note form. A transcript will be created to enable an analysis to take place of the key most important findings. The interview questions and answers will be in an appendix.
