her class for a minimum of two (academic) hours, and report on both the explicit and implicit cultural beliefs and literacy system you find. The students and classroom should be one you are unfamiliar with. In this paper, you should:
Describe the classroom context and the instructor
Describe the curricular goals for students in this context
Describe the role cultural teaching (explicit or implicit) takes
Evaluate the cultural teaching based on what you have learned this semester

Requirements:
3-4 pages (single-spaced) typed
APA style for citations and references

Suggested Paper Outline:
I. Description of the classroom context
A. Who are the students?
B. Who is the instructor?
C. What are the goals of the students? Of the course? Of the program?

II. Description and analysis of the cultural elements observed
A. What explicit and implicit teaching of culture is observed or described by the instructor?
B. What explicit or implicit issues related to culture did you observe or talk to the instructor about?
C. What is the role of cultural teaching in this context for this instructor?

III. Description and analysis of the types of literacy and knowledge valued
A. What types of literacy learning and teaching did you observe or talk to the instructor about?
B. What types of literacy and knowledge are valued? What types are not valued?
C. What types of literacy learning and teaching are discouraged?

IV. Evaluation/suggestions
A. Evaluation of cultural teaching in this context (i.e. Does it have enough prominence in the curriculum? Does it help students enter their target discourse system?)
B. Suggestions to improve student success in terms of culture and literacy.
