a. Identify how a company like B&Q can adopt green philosophy in its supply chains. [ 10 Marks ]
b. Analyse the challenges for a supply chain manager in measuring the level of green credentials for this company and suggest ways to get over the challenges for an organisation like B&Q [10 Marks ]
c. What impact does the adoption of green principles have on the cost of managing a supply chain and how can this be minimised? [10 Marks ]
3) Supply chain risk is increasing in importance for the success of a business
a. Analyse and identify how an aerospace company like Boeing with suppliers in various countries can reduce its supply chain risk. [ 10 Marks ]
b. How can supply chain risk be evaluated before supply chains are put into operation? When do they need to be redesigned? [ 10 Marks ]
4) A company manufactures two different items on its premises Item K and Item L, Item K which requires two raw material RM1 and RM2 each costing A?30 and 20 respectively. In addition K required a purchased component that costs A?5 per unit. Manufacturing L also requires two raw materials RM2 and RM3. RM3 costs A?30 per unit.
Four workcenters A,B,C,D are used to manufacture the products. Each workcenter has 2400 minutes available each week. Whereas there is endless supply of purchased items and raw material.
Item K requires 15 minutes on workcenters A, B and C and 10 minutes of assembly at D. Item L requires 10 minutes on Workcenter A, 25 minutes on workcenter B, 5 minutes on workcenter C and finally assembly on workcenter D for 5 minutes.
Operating expenses for a week for running all workcenters is A?6000 per week.
Based on the above information :
a) Determine if there is a constraint in manufacturing 100 units of K and 50 units of L per week, explain the impact of this constraint on the manufacturing unit. [ 10 Marks]
b) Calculate the returns per minute of the constraint and wether it is profitable to use the time for Item K or L. [ 10 Marks ]
c) Identify the margins that can be expected for the manufacturing unit based on information derived in section (b).[5 Marks
