Altruism Campaign Proposal:
Domestic violence is crime that fights for power and control over another individual. Persuasion refers to deliberate efforts to change an attitude. DV is not held to the privacy of a personas home. It can be seen in the workplace and day-to-day life. DV can occur in any socioeconomic group, and does have an impact on society. Persuasion will make the audience more aware of the threat, influencing to take a stand against DV. Domestic violence is generally learned behavior. It hurts everyone involved. The power of persuasion is our tool to help stop this cycle of abuse, spread education, provides a plan of intervention, and provides various plans for prevention.
The targeted audience would be community members who could help with issues through the educational process of recognizing what domestic violence is, how to report it, and how to provide support for loved ones, neighbors, and others. Setting up assemblies in elementary and high schools will educate young children and teenagers about domestic violence in an effort to prevent future offenders.
The goals of conducting a domestic violence needs assessment will establish an overview of the prevalence of domestic violence in the community; determine whether the community takes a proactive stance on DV issues; find out if the community is equipped to handle existing DV problems; determine areas for action. Age and thoughtfulness (of the audience) will influence who says what, by what method, and to whom (Myers, 2010).
Society accepts elimination of DV as an important goal, but the problem still remains and is of epidemic proportions. Interventions can come from campaigning. Campaigning is a way for a person to become aware of situations in the world. Altruism predicts average behavior; conformity is more influential by the situation than by personality traits (Meyers, 2010). The target audience must comprehend the campaign, believe it, remember it, behave accordingly, and take action.
The central route to persuasion is analytical, motivated, explicit, and reflective. The audience needs motivation and focus to process the information with elaborate, high effort, and either agree or counter argue. a?The persuasion is equal to cogent arguments that evoke enduring agreement,a? (Myer, 2010, p. 612). Combining the message with feelings of altruism behavior is the key to a successful campaign. Face-to-face, credible speakers and victims will help carry the priority in the message to different cultures and communities. According to the elaboration likelihood model, the central route to persuasion is more effective when the audience is both motivated and able to think about the arguments, whereas the peripheral route is more effective when the likelihood that the person will engage in high effort cognitive processing is low (Myers, 2010).
The central strategy targets the audience through various local ad campaigns in the newspapers, on radio stations, and organizing local events to raise awareness. Setting up assemblies in elementary and high schools to educate young children and teenagers about domestic violence in an effort to prevent future offenders, is an example the campaign will propose.
