Nalysis of the political change the United States underwent in 2008-2011
(2) Research paper: Analysis of the political change the United States underwent in 2008-2011.
Write a research paper, about 8-10 pages long (double-spaced, using standard fonts) that explains the political changes the United States underwent in the 2008-2010 period.
The paper must contain the following structural parts:
an introduction that contains a clear thesis statement that indicates your main argument and provides a focus to the essay
a main body that lays out the evidence and analysis that supports your thesis
a conclusion that explains how your analysis supports your thesis
The following areas must be covered:
1. Political philosophy.
2. Economic issues.
3. Foreign policy.
4. Party politics.
5. Legal/constitutional aspects.
Provide a title for the paper. If you do not submit a title page for it, write your name and the title of the paper at the top of page 1.
Since this is an introductory course, the purpose of the research paper is to acquaint you with the rudiments of research, analysis, and academic writing. As a general rule, the quality of a research paper is determined to a significant degree by the quality of the research. Try to use a variety of sources. You should aim to use the most authentic and reliable sources possible. That means Wikipedia is out and general internet sources are to be avoided where official or academic sources are available. The only requirement is that you must use at least TWO academic sources.
Academic sources are books written by scholars and essays in academic journals. For academic sources, your best option is UMUCs online library. The library has databases such as JSTOR and Project Muse that provide full-text access to online academic journals. You can use government publications, web sites of institutions (such as the World Bank, the UN, think tanks such as the Brookings Institution and the Heritage Foundation), and major newspapers such as the New York Times and the Washington Post as additional sources
Once you have located your sources, do not select material from them merely because they are interesting; it is important to select material that is relevant to your paper. Once you have completed your research, you must analyze them and explain how the material you have gathered support your thesis.
You have to cite all sources in the APA style. At the end of the paper, you must furnish a list of all sources cited in the APA format.
