ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS PAPER FOR THEME PARK (GOLD COAST-AUSTRALIA SECTOR)
The task
For management, conducting an environmental analysis is a necessary first step before organisational analysis and then later, developing a strategic plan. Together, these three processes constitute strategic analysis. For this assessment item, you will undertake the first part of strategic analysis: in a group of two, you will perform an environmental analysis of a particular industry sector. Information on how to conduct an environmental analysis is presented in your text on pages 178-182. Along with brief introduction and conclusion sections, and a reference list, your paper should be structured along the same lines as suggested in pages 179-182 of your text. That is, you will need to present:
1. A description of this sector (size, consumer groups served, core business, key benefits, etc);
2. A more detailed analysis of the sector s competitive and broad environments (using Porter s five forces model is strongly suggested);
3. An examination of the factors that influence the sector s demand and cost structures, and;
4. A final section that identifies (at least) three key strategic issues facing organisations in this sector.
In developing your paper, utilise the mainstream strategic management literature, as well as the more specific literature in your particular fields (sport, tourism, leisure, hotel/hospitality, or event management). A number of useful sources of both theoretical and more anecdotal support will be suggested in tutorial.
Be sure to clearly define the sector in your introduction, before addressing the four points referred to above. You should finish your paper with a concluding section that leads the reader to a clear understanding of the key environmental aspects of your chosen sector.
