a big cause was raised in Saudi Arabia which was named (Qatif girl case). The Case concerned a girl which was raped by an old boyfriend. In accordance to the Saudi law, the local court sentenced the perpetrators to varying sentences involving 80 to 1,000 lashes and imprisonment up to ten years for four of them. With regard to those involved in the case the court also sentenced the two victims to six months in prison and 90 lashes each for the separate crime of conducting an extramarital affair. After a lot of discussions, the appeals court doubled the victims sentences in late 2007 following heavy media coverage of the event in the international press regarding the treatment of women in the KSA and Saudi judicial practices.
This decree was followed by a lot of appeals through the media to the Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz , On Monday 17 December 2007, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah issued an official pardon for the two victims, citing his ultimate authority to revise Discretionarypunishments in accordance with the public good. During the trial the Kingdom face a lot of external pressure, Human Rights Watch called on Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to immediately void the verdict and drop all charges against the rape victim and to order the court to end its harassment of her lawyer at the same time Sen. Hillary Clinton say in 23 November 2007  I urge President Bush to call on King Abdullah to cancel the ruling and drop all charges against this woman . Canadas minister for womens issues, Jose Verger described the sentence as Barbaricand New Zealands Prime Minister Helen Clark urged the Saudis to show compassion for the teenager. On the other hand, In the face of this violent attack the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal who was known for his sophistication and good opinion During The Annapolis Peace Summit expressed his opinion to reporters that he hopes the sentence would be revised, adding that The ruling was used to vilify his government even though it was not responsible because courts are independent, also he added And the disturbing thing is that such usage of individual acts is meant to insult the Saudi people and the Saudi government.”
