Ollaboration Select one person who exerted an influence on Darwin. Investigate their interaction and describe the nature of their collaboration
Option 1: collaboration
No one works alone. Select one person who exerted an influence on Darwin. Investigate their
interaction and describe the nature of their collaboration. Your choice may be one of Darwinas
family (e.g., wife, daughter, brother, uncle), one of his intellectual friends (e.g., Huxley, Hooker,
Lubbock), or foes (e.g., Owen, Agassiz), or someone else having a significant influence on his
life (e.g., Fitzroy or his field assistant).
Consider questions such as:
a? what was the nature of their relationship? How often, or how long, did they interact?
a? how did they influence Darwin?
a? how did Darwin influence them?
This essay must make use of primary sources and must reference some secondary sources.

Comment from tutor
: A somewhat helpful account of the intellectual relationship between Darwin and Huxley. You use both primary and secondary sources to address some of the key themes and issues surrounding publication of the Origin. I think however that you could have gone into more detail regarding Darwin and Huxleys respective scientific roles. Was this simply a matter of two scientists who happened to agree with each other and spur each other on? What else did each figure get out of the relationship in terms of eg. career, reputation, etc?
