Part I:

The mission statement for the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners is:
To provide service, infrastructure and leadership necessary to advance a safe and sustainable community, maintain a high quality of life, and protect the natural environment for all our citizens.

The employees of St. Lucie County are always carrying out its mission statement. The employees are proud and take pride in their work, which shows, when residents and tourists visit our beaches, baseball fields, parks and stadiums. The employees of St. Lucie County continue to be dedicated to its residents. St. Lucie County is always evolving, moving forward to provide a better experience for its residents, tourists and businesses.

Part II:

I think that the mission statement has been communicated adequately to the employees and constituents of St. Lucie County. Here are just a few examples of how St. Lucie County has exemplified its mission statement:

St. Lucie County has enhanced the level of public-private partnerships to maintain several core programs and services. From library services, arts and cultural programming, regional history center operations to artificial reefs deployments and controlled burns, dedicated members of the community are working in partnership with St. Lucie County to continue the provision of these as well as other vital services to its residents, stakeholders and visitors.

In recent years, St. Lucie County has been moving forward on green building; working with local and global companies to focus on improving its sustainability, seeking out alternative ideas to improve the environment, and working to create better jobs its residents.

At the same time, St. Lucie County has taken great steps to preserve its 100-plus year history and heritage. Through a voter approved referendum, the County Commissioners have secured more than 11,000 acres of environmentally sensitive lands for conservation and passive recreation, in addition to offering more than 2,300 acres of active parks and beaches.

RE: Week 2 Discussion 1
Evaluate the effectiveness of the companys mission and vision statement and provide an example of how it is carried out.
In 1938, Carl Lindner Sr.s mission was to process dairy products and sell them, cash-and-carry, at his own dairy store. Since he didnt have to deliver, he could sell these products at a significant discount. His vision was to open several small milk and ice cream companies over the next 10 years. He and his family, he had four children and a wife, ran the different locations. United Dairy Farmers mission is being utilized to this day. A customer can come into UDF choose milk, eggs, and ice cream and pay with cash just like they could 74 years ago. As a cashier, I was trained to take cash, credit cards, and electronic bank transfer funds. One thing about UDF is it is convenient for them to come in, choose the items they want and purchase them in a short period of time.

Evaluate whether or not the mission and vision has been adequately communicated to employees and customers.

Yes, the mission and vision of United Dairy Farmers has been greatly communicated to the employees that work there. United Dairy Farmers started out with a few locations. The vision I believe far exceeded what Carl Lindner Sr. originally thought it would be. He probably thought there would be a handful of stores that would be successful. He would have never dreamed that it would be as successful as it is today. In 2011, it was worth $32.5 billion dollars. There are over 200 locations in the United States. The mission is still the same as it was 74 years ago. It was and is to make and sell dairy products, to pay with cash and carry the products out the door. His store would sell them at a discount, because the goods did not need to be delivered. He created Homemade Ice Cream, which is very popular with UDFs customers. This ice cream sells fast. People prefer the Homemade brand over the United Dairy Farmers brand, not knowing that they are made by the same company, one is just made with more expensive ingredients.
