Community Needs Assessment

Instructions: Select a local community (Jacksonville, Fl) and perform a community health needs assessment based on behavioral considerations (see the items listed below).

In a formal paper (minimum 8 pages, NOT including title page, references, appendices or graphs), explain how you as a public health administer will address the needs discovered in your assessment.

Note: All information may not be available on the Internet; students may have to obtain the information by other means such as, interviewing a local public health official, local newspapers, pamphlets or other methods. All information obtain must have a credible reference and must be specific. Please do not base the information on your personal knowledge.

In this formal and APA formatted paper, the student will use a minimum of three (3) evidence-based articles from peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. The paper should be no less than 8 pages total (NOT including title page, references, appendices or graphs) maximum 10 pages.

Some Behavioral Considerations in Population Health Assessment

Food Preferences and consumption patterns in the population? Nutritional level of the population.

What percentage of population is overweight? What percentage of population is underweight?

What is the extent of drug abuse?

How easy is it to obtain drugs?

What is the extent of alcohol and tobacco sales in the population? What is the extent of alcohol and drug abuse in the population? What is the prevalence of arrests related to alcohol and other drugs? What is the extent of tobacco use in the population?

What is the attitude of the population towards sexual activity? What is the attitude of the population towards homosexuality? What is the extent of contraceptive use in the community?
