Ompetitive Intelligence and Research Assignment

During term 6, you must undertake a research project. During term 5, you should decide the topic of this research project. You must choose a topic from the management/business or accounting area. The task for the Competitive Intelligence Research (CIR) module is to provide a comprehensive and coherent description of the research you are going to develop for the project in the following term.
Specifically, you must write a 2,500 words research assignment explaining and justifying the rationale of the decisions you made when designing your research project.

You are expected to demonstrate:
a critical approach to the literature,
informed decisions about the general research approach (deductive/inductive view),
a good understanding of the range of research data available
an understanding of the advantages and the challenges of different research methods and techniques (surveys, questionnaires, interviews), including the context of the research
a research plan of physically gathering data, any time frame considerations, possible and alternative ways to analyse the data
a short discussion about the limitations and the usefulness of the research
relevance of the type of the chosen data
any important ethical considerations and implications the research needs to deal with.

In addition, the assignment should demonstrate:

a clear structure and format.
a good number (8-A12) of reviewed and appropriate data sources (academic papers, books,
etc.)
consistent and proper referencing of sources using the Harvard System throughout the text
a critical approach of the literature review and the choice of the research methods

Students are expected to design a good and realistic research plan. In broader terms, this means that, firstly, they have to show that they are aware of the different options researchers have when they investigate an issue. Secondly, students are invited to demonstrate that designing a research involves making choices and they have to present these. Finally, they should show they are aware of the implications, the strong points and the weaknesses these choices introduce to the research. The last point is that the proposed research plan is realistic.

In particular, your proposal should describe your choices about the following:
Paradigm (ontology, epistemology, axiology)
Research approach (inductive, deductive)
Research nature (exploratory, explanatory, descriptive) Hypothetical research hypotheses/questions (if appropriate) Research methods
Research techniques
Time frame
Ethical and accessibility issues
Limitations
