OMPREHENSION EXERCISE To show understanding of set texts

The referencing requirements are very minimal for this assignment only the THREE set texts are required in the bibliography. For each 500 word topic only one direct quotation from the set text is required.

So for Emotion and the Unconscious: S. Freud, only one quote is required from the reading
a? S. Freud: a?The a?Uncannya ain S. Freud: Art and Literature (Penguin, 1985) [extracts] Page 339 to 376.

COMPREHENSION EXERCISE
Write an account of three of the six set texts (i.e., the texts by Heidegger, Otto, and Freud) studied during wks 7 a 12 of the course.

The three texts that I want to be included in my work are:
1) Emotion and the Unconscious: S. Freud

Reading
a? S. Freud: a?The a?Uncannya ain S. Freud: Art and Literature (Penguin, 1985) [extracts] Page 339 to 376.

2) Being in a Mood: M. Heidegger

Reading
a? a?What is Metaphysics? a? in M. Heidegger : Pathmarks (Cambridge Uni. Press, 1998) Pages 81 to 96

3) Religion and Emotion: R. Otto

Reading
a? R. Otto: a?The Idea of the Holy (Oxford Uni. Press, 1958) [extracts] Pages 144 to 155

As this is an exercise in comprehension you should not include any critical evaluation of the claims and arguments contained in the texts discussed. The task, on this occasion, is to provide a description of the main claims, themes and arguments contained in the three texts selected in order to explain them as clearly as possible to your reader.

You should attempt to reformulate the relevant claims and arguments in the texts discussed in your own words avoiding both over-lengthy quotations and close paraphrasing.

Given the word limit (1500) it is not recommended that you discuss any material other than the relevant set texts. The aim of this assessment task is to demonstrate your capacity to read and comprehend the specific set texts in question.

It is strongly recommended that the three accounts are of equal length (i.e. 3 x 500 words).

Full and accurate references for all sources used, including the set texts must be provided. A bibliography is also required.
