Ontrol or Consequences ?; The Use of HbA1c in the Treatment of Diabetes. (LIBRARY PROJECT)
HbA1c measurements are used to guide the treatment of diabetes, and help patients avoid the complications of the disease.
The first part of this project looks at the difference between immediate control of blood glucose levels, and avoiding the long term effects of living with diabetes.
Large numbers of diabetic patients are from ethnic minority groups, and can have variant haemoglobin types; under these circumstances, measurement of HbA1c may not be possible.
The second part of the project looks at alternatives to HbA1c assays.
