Oundations of Conflict Resolution MODULE 2 SESSION LONG PROJECT
The intent of the SLP is for you to apply the theoretical and general aspects covered in each module, to real-life and practical cases.
Conflict is an integral part of our lives, and we encounter it in every aspect of our personal and professional activities.
Surely, you have observed (or even participated in) some form of conflict at your workplace, be it a simple but heated interpersonal matter, or a full-scale organizational dispute.
The SLP will has three short parts you will need to address as described below.
Focus should be put on sections II + III.
As Mediation is our topic, please present a situation where the parties could not resolve the conflict on their own, but required the services of a Third party.
It is most helpful for most students, to answer the SLP assignment, by following the same section order.
Part I Background and Settings (in about ? a page):
The Organization (post office is my organization) Without revealing proprietary information, describe the organization of your choice (It should be one that you are familiar with, so preferably it would be easier, if it would be your own). Organizations can be anything from: The school PTA, Uncle Joes restaurant, Battalion 999 of the Marine Corps, or doctors and nurses in the community health center.
The Conflict Describe the workplace conflict issue you have chosen to write about.
o What is the underlying problem or difference?
o Who are the parties or sides in this conflict?
The Third party”:
o Who is the Third party”?
o How was s/he chosen?
Part II How was it Mediated? (in about 1 full page):
Describe the mediators decisions and/or behaviors and/or actions to the following:
o How was the session organized?
o Were meetings held jointly and/or in caucus?
o Did the mediator facilitate solution progress? How?
o Was a solution reached? If not why?
Part III What Would You Have Done? (in about 1 full page):
Assuming YOU were the mediator:
o What would YOU have done in this case?
o What steps would YOU have taken?
