Ow can maths promote cultural development in primary schools.

The National Curriculum states that  schools should aim to promote pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepare all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. (DfEE 1999 p. 11)

Mathematics is often regarded as a neutral, pure subject. How might these values be promoted through mathematics? For this basis of this essay focus on only the cultural development, with reference to readings and classroom practice
