Ow did slavery affect gender roles for African Americans?

This is a research essay for the module, Gender in Early North America, as part of my history degree. Must include a full biblography and referencing (Harvard system). The essay will need to look at how gender roles were affected by slavery for african americans from the time period from the american revolution onwards, especially on the plantations in the South.
