Ow do societys ideas about children change over time? Why is this significant for those working with children and families?
Focuses on the changing conceptualisations of childhood over time. It draws on ideas about children and also on recent changes in our ideas about children and childhood influenced, perhaps, by various social, political and media factors. Describe the different kinds of ideas about children and the concept of social constructionism and discuss ways in which childhood can be defined (legally, biologically, socially. The role of the media is important to discuss. Describe the practice implications of these changes. There should be an explicit link made between conceptualisations of children and how these inform practice.
