ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

Assessment will take into account the level of research and analysis of a current issue in computing as demonstrated by the production of a written report on the topic

Assignment Details

You are required to choose a current issue in computing and identify two (ACADEMIC) groups working in this area and collect information about the work of each group. For example, if you choose to do something on robotics, you could look at groups at Reading and at MIT. You must then write a report detailing the work of each group and comparing and contrasting their work. Finally you should discuss the trends in this research and indicate how you see it developing in future.

Deliverables: Report 2000 words MAXIMUM.


Structure and content of paper

Your report must be fully referenced, using the Harvard Style of referencing.
You should outline the important facts, and explain their relevance.
You should explain, and critically evaluate, a range of opinions on the issue.
You may also offer your own opinion, and provide supporting arguments, if this is appropriate.
Required Structure:
Title
Abstract (50-120 words): summarises the most important points that are made in your paper.
Introduction: introduces the main issues that are to be considered.
Sections: each section requires a suitably informative heading to help the reader.
Conclusions: this must include some indication or viewpoint on what the future holds, as part of your conclusions.

It is important that you reference your paper fully and accurately. Failure to adequately reference your paper could be interpreted as plagiarism, and may lead to a mark of 0% for your paper. .

>70% Excellent performance (1st):

60  69% Above average (2:1):
” Your report demonstrates a very good ability to identify and use appropriate sources of information on contemporary computer -related concerns. Very good academic underpinning, including very good quality references to recent material.
” Your report demonstrates a very good ability to explain the theoretical and/or technical basis of a current computing issue. Very good level of research, very good depth of knowledge, very good critical analysis and very good ability to present arguments clearly and concisely.

50  59% Average (2:2):
” Your report demonstrates a good ability to identify and use appropriate sources of information on contemporary computer -related concerns. Good academic underpinning, including good quality references to recent material.
” Your report demonstrates a good ability to explain the theoretical and/or technical basis of a current computing issue. Good level of research, good depth of knowledge, good critical analysis and good ability to present arguments clearly and concisely.

40  49% Satisfactory (3rd):
” Your report demonstrates a satisfactory ability to identify and use appropriate sources of information on contemporary computer -related concerns. Satisfactory academic underpinning, including satisfactory quality references to recent material.
” Your report demonstrates a satisfactory ability to explain the theoretical and/or technical basis of a current computing issue. Satisfactory level of research, satisfactory depth of knowledge, satisfactory critical analysis and satisfactory ability to present arguments clearly and concisely.

30  39% Marginal (Bare Fail):
” A marginally unsatisfactory performance in some aspects of the assessment activity but satisfactory performance elsewhere enabling compensation to be applied.
” Evidence of some attempt to research a current computing issue.

<30% Unsatisfactory (Fail): Very little or no attempt to discuss a sample of current computing issues. Mark Sheet for Report This will be returned with the report.
