Assessment 1 was about answering a from an in-house perspective the questions:

What market are we in?
How do we compete?
What are our priorities?
Who are our stakeholders?
What are the stakeholder and communications issues we need to solve?

The output was a brief on strategic communications challenges.

ASSESSMENT 2
Assessment 2 calls for you to create a PR strategy and plan for an organisation using the briefs from the first assessment and your own research.

This is an individual assignment which must be completed in report (eg MS Word format) and the guideline length is 3,000 words.

It is a chance to respond to that brief as a communications consultant and answer the questions:

What am I going to do about the above as a communicator/professional PR person?

What are the stakeholder issues and how do I respond to them?

What does the PR strategy look like a and how does it respond to these strategic challenges?

What are the tactics and timeline for making it all happen? IE What communications tools are you using, to communicate what, to whom, how and when?

The lectures and related readings (including the International Communications session if you have an international PR issue), along with the Oliver book, provide the content and background for writing the strategic PR plan.

For anyone who has not done a marketing communications module a and learned about SOSTAC or other planning models a make sure you read lecture 6 carefully to understand the SOSTAC (or another) communications planning headings.

Assessment criteria are below:

Clear identification of commercial and competitive context (20%)

Clear identification of stakeholders and stakeholder issues a including media coverage (20%)

Clear definition of a PR strategy that responds to these strategic challenges (20%)

A plan including tactics and timeline for making the strategy happen? IE What communications tools are you using, to communicate what, to whom, how and when? (20%)

Overall impact, professionalism and workability of the plan, including some evidence of thought on evaluation. (20%)
