Reate Strategies for Multi-lingual Students

Activity Description:
Many early childhood specialists will be working with children from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. What are some strategies that will support the learning of these children? What is the argument about teaching in English only? It is the role of the teacher to require an understanding of bilingual, dialect difference, and a working knowledge of speech and language disorders.

For this assignment, you have read Chapters 8 and 13 in the textbook, Driscoll, A., & Nagel, N. G. 2008 Early childhood education, birth-8: The world of children, families, and educators, and reflected on bilingual education. As you reflect on what you have learned about English as a second language, respond to this scenario. You are a teacher of a first-grade classroom in which English is the dominant native language. Five students in the class speak Spanish as their native language. Incorporate the following into your paper:
a? Discuss the position you promote regarding bilingual education, and then explain why.
a? Identify at least seven anti-bias strategies that you could use to ensure these children do not feel that their language represents a deficit because it is not the norm.
a? Defend each strategy by utilizing scholarly resources to justify its use.
Support your paper with three scholarly references from peer-reviewed journals published in the past 7 years. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
