Rgumentative Synthesis-Extreme Obedience
In class, we reviewed both the Milgram and Zimbardo experiments to get a better understanding of why and to what extent humans obey authority as well as the powerful dynamic of group think. In addition, we also discussed the real life events that happened in Okinawa and Abu Graib to put a real face on the aforementioned experiments and their results. Finally, Lt. Colonel Kenneth H. Wenker i??s article about the balance between morality and military obedience shed some light on how the military uses obedience to reach its goals.
Your argument synthesis should answer the following question: Is extreme obedience ever necessary? The best essays will include appeals to Logos, Ethos, or Pathos or a combination therein. A variety of sources both from class and from outside sources should be included in your argument.
