Riedrich Nietzsche, details of more specifics below
m curious about what FN says about the metaphor and the concept–how do the activities of making these things produce or inhibit truth? A great paper topic would be to dig in to the question we asked in class: is FN suggesting that theres a reality somewhere out there that we necessarily distort in the activities of forming metaphors and concepts? Or is his position on this somehow less binary and categorical?
While this would be an interesting topic just in treating Truth and Lies(i.e., the selection in the Norton), another tack would be to say Yeah, in Truth and Lies, FN does seem to be suggesting that theres a reality somewhere out there that we necessarily distort in the activities of forming metaphors and concepts. And yet our other selections (which are later writings by FN) seem to take a slightly different tack on this question.”
Another approach would be to treat the special status of art in Truth & Lies. How do the activities of forming concepts and metaphors take on a different significance in the domain of art?
This is pretty much what im looking at; a paper on Friedrich Nietzsche and im just too swamped to sit down and really work out a good paper. This teacher grades fairly tough; ie–grammer, spelling, sentence flow, theme, and overall picture of paper. I gave you above an e-mail he sent the class with some topics he thought were interesting.
We read Nietzsches the Gay Science, truth and lies in a non-moral sense, and also the birth of tragedy.
It would be fantastic if you could have this paper done before the 48hrs, but ill be understanding if not.
