Overview: Every research activity requires the identification of a problem that serves as the subject of the effort. Without identifying the specific problem under study, the research effort lacks focus. Therefore, in order to avoid wasted effort, the first step in any research activity is to identify the problem.

Assignment: Critique Different Problems and Research Methods
Review the three articles and prepare a short paper structured as a memorandum for a research team lead. In your memorandum, compare and contrast:

The problems,
Participants, and
Research methods discussed in the articles.
Support your paper with appropriate citations from the required articles. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 3 pages not including title and reference pages

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the readings and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Main Task Part 2 (5 points): Discuss the Importance of Identifying a Problem via Specific Research
You are to initiate a discussion of your concepts, ideas, and thoughts on the value and importance of criminal justice research. The goal is for you to express your thoughts on the key points of criminal justice research. Being able to successfully describe and define the benefits and limitations of criminal justice research is essential. This discussion will be open-ended to afford you the opportunity to interact with your course instructor and possibly other students during the course.
