A dissertation on the critical reception of William Hogarth in the nineteenth century. roughly chronological, looking at developing responses to Hogarth through the nineteenth century, with each chapter focusing on a different writer or group of writers or painter or group of painters. The overall theme of the dissertation as a whole needs to be something along the lines of why nineteenth century thinkers and artists found Hogarth important and interesting in a way that eighteenth-century ones generally didnt.
