A few useful tips for you to follow as your construct your masterpiece:

-Answer the question set. Be precise, to the point, scholarly, accessible. Take care with grammar and syntax and punctuation; it does matter, and done badly, it does detract from the overall a?feela and flow of the essay.
-Keep a tight structure. Focus on the question. Conclude with confidence.
-Try to avoid excessive use of the first person.
-You can use illustrations, charts and maps, where appropriate. Lay the essay out nicely and with style.
-You may subdivide your essay up, within reason, using sub-section headings.
-As this is a Social Science essay we encourage you to use the Harvard style of referencing. However, if you come from another academic discipline, you may use the referencing system you are most accustomed to.
-When referencing a?personal observationsa, use (pers.obs, plus a date).
-When referencing websites or online newspaper articles, give the full link at the end of the bibliography, plus the dated accessed. Try not to clutter up the actual main text of the essay with long web addresses.
-Write in proper paragraphs, not in bullet points.
-When using decades, do this: 1970s, 1980s, 1990s (no apostrophe)
-Include a full bibliography (alphabetical, by surname) of publications consulted and quoted from.
-Do not live by Wikipedia! In fact, do not over-define concepts in general.
-You may refer to class lecture notes and tutorial case studies, but very sparingly. Do not simply fling back at us the material that we have given to you.
