It is important that students should research the issues raised in-depth, include critical analysis and substantiate claims with academic references.

The course work is assessed on the following criteria:
-in-depth theoretical and conceptual knowledge and understanding relating to the development of young children s communication through creative expression
-critical evaluation of different perspectives on the development of young child s communication
-critical appraisal of factors influencing the empowerment of children
competent autonomous and independent learning showing in the ability to present and discuss relevant issues appropriately substantiated and referenced.

The importance of creativity in a child s development. This will include looking at how drawing takes part in birth to three matters and the foundation stage.

Theories of the development of drawing and stages

Does the development of drawing link with other development like cognitive and language development?

Drawings role in expression and communication.

Factors influencing the empowerment of children (past and present, NACCE definition of creativity empowers all children to have a voice and be creative, its valuing the individual has something to say even if they can no say it)

Use of creative drawing in art therapy (what is art therapy?)
-first its general use with two recent papers/journals
-second how it helps children with emotional problems and trauma
-lastly look at a recent case study e.g. New York twin towers how was art therapy used with the children in went through the trauma.

Is art therapy a successful therapy for helping children express and communicate themselves?
