Guidelines for Critique of Selected Reading
In this assignment you are asked to prepare a theoretical critique of one of the assigned readings from the course reader. You will collaborate with another student on the same reading to prepare both a written and oral critique. The instructor will coordinate the assignment of readings and schedule of presentations. The work should be distributed equitably between both students.
On the assigned date, you will present the reading critique to the class in an oral presentation. You will also submit a written analysis in the form of a handout to the instructor and to each student in the class.

1) What is the main point of the reading? What is/are the author(s) trying to communicate to the reader? Summarize the main point(s) of the reading and the authoras key arguments.
2) What is the theoretical value of the reading? That is, how does the reading add to the understanding of human behavior in the social environment? What is offered that is unique, interesting, and/or important?
3) How is the reading related to other theories, concepts, themes, and topics covered
4) Lastly, what is your overall evaluation of the reading? What are its strengths and weaknesses in terms of helping social work practitioners better understand human behavior and the social environment?
The written portion of the assignment is a 3 pages critique of the article, covering the major points listed earlier
