Strategic Audit Project: External Scan
**The company used is The Cleveland Clinic, more specifically, an affiliated hospital called Ashtabula County Medical Center.**
During Week 2, you are required to perform external scan of the industry sector related to the organization you are working with to complete the Strategic Audit Project. By performing an external scan, an organization can better understand the forces driving change and decision-making within their organization.

Work with your healthcare organization and healthcare professional to identify the following:
Current challenges facing the organization (i.e. new legislation, technology, revenue sources, competitors, etc.)
Past and future trends of the consumer for that organization.
The current status of resources suppliers (i.e. vendors, external partners of any kind, etc.).
Here is some information I received from the person I interviewed:
Current challenges facing the organization (i.e. new legislation, technology, revenue sources, competitors, etc.): Our institution is preparing for legislation changes that could impact us financially if we dont meet certain standards. These examples are preventing readmissions, properly billing government insurances, and improving patient satisfaction scores.
Past and future trends of the consumer for that organization: Historically, institutions didnt gauge satisfaction of patients in a standardized way. Now with HCAHPS organizations are scored and can be ranked. This ranking can then affect patient hospital selection and level of reimbursement from insurers.
The current status of resources suppliers (i.e. vendors, external partners of any kind, etc.): We utilize vendors for purchasing and some staffing. We recently changed our purchasing group to align us with the other hospitals in the Cleveland Clinic group.
